United Airlines becomes the third U.S. airline to order the Airbus A321XLR with a contract for 50 units. The A321XLR is not very far from 400 copies sold.
With the firm order of 50 A321XLRs by United Airlines, the Airbus aircraft is not far from 400 copies sold since its launch at the last Paris Air Show. United Airlines becomes the 17th customer of the aircraft and the third U.S. airline to order after American Airlines and JetBlue. United Airlines expects to receive its first Airbus A321XLR in 2024 and plans first international flights starting in 2025. The aircraft will gradually replace “older models”, the Boeing 757s that United Airlines still operates, and will be operated from Newark/New York and Washington, D.C. to expand transatlantic routes.
