A shortage of MRO specialists
A shortage of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) specialists has become a major problem for the Russian aircraft industry. Typically, the average age of MRO specialists is now approaching retirement age, while the education system in its current form cannot cope with the task of providing the industry with sufficient new personnel. Furthermore, the profession remains unattractive for young people and, as a result, good specialists are in high demand with airlines competing for them, a situation which has led to increased headhunting activity and staff turnover, which in turn is negatively affecting the level of MRO services in general.
S7 Technics have their own dedicated training centres
Major players, such as S7 Technics, have their own dedicated training centres which smaller players and regional operators cannot afford. At the same time, the Russian market is becoming more and more advanced, with an influx of hi-tech aviation aircraft and equipment that also requires the appropriate knowledge and skills to maintain. That is why, at the upcoming MRO Russia & CIS exhibition and conference, which is being held on March 10-11, the critical personnel shortages issue has been given special attention.
The Yegoryevsk aviation technical college
At the event, Stanislav Ryzhkov, deputy director for educational and methodological work at the Yegoryevsk aviation technical college, will be sharing how training centres can adapt their MRO programmes in accordance with the current trends. The Yegoryevsk aviation technical college is one of the leading specialised educational institutions in Russia for training such technical specialists.
