Eight French companies have decided to jointly support the development of artificial intelligence used within the industry field.
Wednesday the 3rd of July, eight French industrials have signed a manifesto on Artificial Intelligence for Industry. The companies Air Liquide, Dassault Aviation, EDF, Renault, Safran, Thales, Total and Valeo explained they have decided to work together to develop “a common strategic vision of AI”.
The eight industries clarified: “The signatories have agreed to conduct a joint review between now and September 2019 to share findings with policymakers and establish a coordinated plan of action with the French AI ecosystem by the end of the year, as well as to encourage the participation of all public and private stakeholders who share this common strategic vision of AI.” These companies have decided to channel their works toward specific problems, which several industries are already focusing on. Thus, the French industry should foster the emergence of a trusted, explainable and certifiable AI in views of its use. A certified AI will allow to guarantee the neural network capacity and the accuracy of the information transmitted and precise decisions. The eight signatories will focus on “embedded systems (i.e. autonomous electronic systems used to perform a task); AI for design, simulation, development, testing and logistics; AI for maintenance and Industry 4.0” or the reliability and the robustness of the neural network feeding the AI. The industries will focus on the AI, as a whole, on both areas of application and the core systems of AI.
Once the eight companies will have drawn the conclusions of their preliminary work, they will share the diagnosis “with policymakers and establish a coordinated plan of action with the French AI ecosystem by the end of the year, to encourage the participation of all public and private stakeholders who share this common strategic vision of AI.”
The French industry is strengthening its focus on AI to guarantee France’s technological independence in this field, in a context where data management is becoming critical, especially regarding the data protection. The data collected in a very complex environment (i.e. the Defense environment) must be handled with care in order to guarantee the safety of the national sovereignty and of sensitive data.
