China’s Comac and UAC of Russia have announced further details of their partnership to design and develop a long-haul widebody aircraft, now officially designated CR929 (as in China-Russia). The two companies had announced the creation of a joint venture at Airshow China 2016. The joint company is called China-Russia Commercial Aircraft International Co (CRAIC).

Three versions of the aircraft have been announced to date: the standard CR929-600, the stretched CR929-700, and the shortened CR929-500. The projected typical range of the CR929-600 is 12,000km (7,456 miles), with an estimated capacity of 280 passengers. The shorter version is estimated to seat 230 passengers and the stretched version, 320 passengers.

First deliveries are expected in around 10 years.

This latest announcement follows the signature of an MoU between United Engine Corporation (UEC) of Russia and China’s AECC Commercial Aircraft Engine Co., Ltd. (AECC CAE). The agreement, signed during Aviation Expo China 2017 in September, establishes the framework for joint development of a gas turbine engine for future long-range wide-body aircraft, such as the CR929.
