Paris 2017: Elbit unveils SkEye persistent surveillance system

Elbit Systems is showing its SkEye airborne persistent surveillance system for the first time in Paris, along with the SkyStriker autonomous loitering munitions systems.

At this year’s Paris Air Show (19th – 23rd June), Elbit Systems will reveal its SkEye Wide-Area Persistent Surveillance (WAPS) solution for homeland security and defence applications.

The system is claimed to provide a unique, “Eye in the Sky”, overall situational awareness of “on-the- ground” intelligence data, enabling a large number of users to receive real-time, high-resolution imagery.

SkEye WAPS persistently observes and records a wider area than ever before, offering users the ability to select real-time or “back in time” video footage within the covered area of up to 80km2 without being limited to a single segment. Up to ten Regions of Interest (ROI) can be analyzed simultaneously using video footage from recent and previous missions.

The airborne segment consists of the EO sensor unit, an advanced image processing unit, a large mass storage unit and analysis applications. Via an embedded data link, the relevant information is transmitted from the aircraft to the SkEye, Control and Management Center (SCMC), which can be integrated with the customer’s Command & Control (C2) solution.

SkEye WAPS features a fully-programmable alerting system that allows commanders to be notified of specific/unusual events through a customized alert mechanism.

Elbit says that the solution is already operating in various countries globally, contributing to defense and HLS missions, and is installed on various types of unmanned aircraft vehicles and light aircraft.

Also being shown in public for the first time, SkyStriker is a fully autonomous loitering munitions (LM) system capable of long-range precise tactical strikes. SkyStriker improves situational awareness and survivability by providing direct-fire aerial precision capabilities to manoeuvring troops and special forces.

SkyStriker offers quick deployment and ease of operation in the field, providing forces with the ability to observe and identify enemy targets before delivering a rapid precision airstrike. Its remote operation capability allows operators to remain unexposed to detection or enemy fire while guiding the LM to its target.
