ELTA Systems and Lockheed Martin jointly introduced a multi-mission radar solution for the U.S. Army’s Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor system.
Lockheed Martin and ELTA Systems, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries, jointly introduced the ELM-2084 Multi-Mission Radar (MS-MMR) to the U.S. Army to become part of the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) system during a 'Sense-Off' demonstration at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. During this two-week demonstration, the radar took part to a series of air and missile defense exercises.
The MS-MMR introduced in the event fuses additional ELTA sensors to the main MMR system thereby providing an active, passive, and combined Air Situational Picture (ASP). This radar enables a long-range air defense, air surveillance and fire control and is currently used in 'Iron Dome', 'David’s Sling' and IAI’s land-based 'Barak' weapon systems.
Dr. Rob Smith, vice president and general manager of Radar and Sensor Systems at Lockheed Martin said: “We will leverage technology that is production ready and proven in the field, allowing us to meet the Army’s requirements quickly and provide qualified systems within 24 months after the initial contract award.”
