Kuwait Airways orders eight Airbus A330neos

Kuwait Airways, the national carrier of the state of Kuwait, has signed a Purchase Agreement for eight Airbus A330-800s.

Kuwait Airways, the national carrier of the state of Kuwait, has signed a Purchase Agreement for eight Airbus A330-800s. The agreement was signed on 15th October by Yousef Al-Jassim, Kuwait Airways Chairman, and Christian Scherer, Airbus' new Chief Commercial Officer, at Airbus headquarters in Toulouse.

The announcement marks an important step in Kuwait Airways’ fleet renewal and expansion strategy — in February 2014, Kuwait Airways announced orders for 10 A350-900s and 15 A320neos, as well as leasing seven A320ceos and five A330-200s. The delivery of the new Airbus fleet will start in 2019.

The A330neo family comprises the A330-900 and the A330-800, sharing the same airframe, engines and cross crew commonality. Both aircraft feature a new A350-inspired wing with Sharklet wingtip devices, Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and the new AirSpace by Airbus cabin.

The Kuwait Airways order appears to be the only outstanding commitment for the smaller -800 variant. As of the end of September, the Airbus website showed orders for 224 A330neos — all for the A330-900.
