First test firing of a laser-guided weapon from a Reaper drone in France

DGA Essais en vol carried out two test firings of laser-guided bombs (GBU-12) at the Cazaux site, in cooperation with the French Air Force, after a rehearsal flight on September 30.

Procedure validation...

This test campaign validated a type of itinerary and procedures that will be used in the future by the Air Force and Space Force's Reaper UAVs for its future training on the Captieux (Gironde) firing range. A rehearsal flight was conducted on September 30, followed by a ballistic firing flight on October 5 and a laser-guided firing on October 7.

... For the bomb-carrying Reaper

The bomb-carrying Reaper UAV for both flights was operated by the 33rd Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Attack Wing of the Cognac-Châteaubernard 709 airbase, under the supervision of DGA Essais en vol (Cazaux site), with support from the ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) brand team of the Centre d'Expertise Aérienne Militaire (CEAM) of the French Air Force and Space.
