MTU Maintenance Zhuhai has been certified to provide MRO services to the CFM International LEAP engines. The General Support License Agreement (GSLA) will enable the 50/50 joint venture of MTU Aero Engines and China Southern Air Holding Company to carry out maintenance, repair and overhaul supports on LEAP-1A and -1B engines.

Thus, MTU Maintenance Zhuhai — which already performs MRO on IAE V2500-A5 and CFMI CFM56-3, -5B and -7 engines — carried out preparations for the implementation of the LEAP program, including the procurement of tooling and testing equipment, review of technical documents, employee training as well as obtaining the necessary aviation authority approvals.

Besides, a LEAP-1B engine was inducted in the Zhuhai Free Trade Zone facility on September 10. This agreement will further increase MTU Maintenance shop visits which already plans to reach 450 with the 50 percent expansion of the Chinese site.
