Boeing 737 MAX: the Russian Rostec wants to cancel

The Russian consortium Rostec wants to cancel the 35 Boeing 737 MAX ordered by its aircraft leasing subsidiary. Last July, the Saudi airline Flyadeal decided to not confirm its order for 30 Boeing 737 MAX.

The Russian consortium Rostec confirms one of its aircraft leasing subsidiary, Avia Capital Services, lodged an appeal to the court to cancel its order for 35 Boeing 737 MAX. Rostec’s subsidiary asks for the refund with interest of the deposit worth $35 million (or $1 million per aircraft) made during the signature of the contract as well as $75 million for the lost profits related to the leasing of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft that could not be fulfilled and an additional $115 million as a compensation.

This is the second cancellation for the 737 MAX since its grounding and the delivery freeze related to the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines crashes. On July, the Saudi airline Flyadeal decided to not convert into a contract its letter of intent about 30 firms Boeing 737 MAX with further 20 options. Flyadeal decided to cancel due to “schedule obligations” and ordered Airbus A320neos instead.
